Resource packs are add-on features that allow you to customise the look and feel of your Minecraft world.
Previously known as ‘texture packs’, they allow you to re-texture the game to increase visual appeal, giving your world a fresh, new look.
They also allow you to customise things like the game’s sound and mob appearance, further adding to their appeal.
Bedrock servers meanwhile refers to the edition of Minecraft that allows for cross-platform gameplay.
Regardless of whether you’re playing on Playstation, Xbox, or PC, you’ll be able to play Minecraft with all your friends on the same server.
Resource packs are therefore an excellent way to keep gameplay fresh and exciting, customising your world to suit what you and your friends want from your Minecraft server.
Ready to learn how? Read our full step-by-step guide below and see why PebbleHost are the go-to platform for Minecraft bedrock server hosting! (Please bear in mind that this installation guide is applicable to Windows 10/11 edition also known as bedrock edition of Minecraft only).
The first thing you’ll need to do is find a resource pack that fits your style or theme.
There are plenty of free resource packs available online, on websites like Planet Minecraft, or you can create your own.
Once you've located the texture pack you want, download it to your computer.
Resource packs usually come as .mcpack or .zip files. If it's a .zip, you can easily change the extension to .mcpack to work with Bedrock.
Once you’ve downloaded the resource pack, simply double-click the file.
Minecraft Windows 10 Edition will automatically launch and install the pack.
Now, open Minecraft, click the “Play” button on the main menu, then go to the “Worlds” tab. Select “Create New” and then “Create New World”.
Before you create the world:
• Choose your preferred settings and give your world a name.
• Scroll down to Resource Packs at the bottom left and expand the My Packs section.
• You should see the resource pack you just installed. Click Activate to apply it to your new world.
Once activated, the resource pack will be listed under the “Active” category.
Now, click “Create”, and your world will load with the new textures.
Now that your resource pack is installed, the next step is to transfer it to your Minecraft Bedrock server.
1. Locate the Windows 10 World File: To do this, open “File Explorer” and paste this path into the address bar, replacing username with your Windows user name:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\games\com.mojang\minecraftWorlds
In this folder, find the directory for your newly created world.
You can confirm the right folder by opening the levelname.txt file inside, which will display the name of your world.
2. Upload the Resource Pack: Once you've located the correct folder, copy the world_resource_packs, world_resource_pack_history, and resource_packs files.
Then, upload these files to your server’s /worlds/Bedrock level directory using your server’s File Manager.
3. Upload the Resource Pack Folder: Additionally, navigate back to the main directory on your PC where Minecraft is installed.
Inside the resource_packs folder, you’ll see a directory for the pack you activated in your world.
Drag this folder into the resource_packs directory on your server’s File Manager.
Once the upload is complete, restart your Minecraft server.
This will apply the resource pack to your world. Now, whenever a player joins your server, they’ll be prompted to download the pack before entering the world.
That’s it! Once your server has restarted and the resource pack is applied, you can jump into the game and enjoy your newly customised world.
Players joining your server will have the option to download the pack and experience the changes you’ve made.
You can experiment with different packs and textures anytime to refresh the experience for yourself and others.
